Eligibility

• All entries must depict a horse registered with the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society (GVHS). Eligibility is limited to individuals with current or lifetime GVHS membership in good standing. The submitter must hold ownership of the horse(s) featured or provide documented written consent from the registered owner authorizing use of the horse's likeness in the submission.

Technical Specifications

• Minimum 2550 x 3300 Pixels and Minimum resolution: 300 DPI at print size

• Accepted formats: PNG, JPEG only (RAW files not accepted)

• Preferred color format CMYK, will except RGB

• Cell phone photos and screen shots/grabs are not adequate formatting for eligibility

Photo Content Requirements

• Must align with the magazine's stated theme for the 2026 contest cycle - Driving into the Future (Images must align with carts, wagons, driving, vardos theme)

• Composite images accepted upon review, heavily manipulated photos will be reviewed for quality and consistency. Basic adjustments permitted (exposure, contrast, color correction, cropping)

• AI generated images or AI enhanced elements are strictly prohibited

• Photos must have been taken within the last 24 months

Submission Rules

• Must include horse GV# when submitting

• Each photo must be submitted as a separate entry with its own completed entry form

• Entries must be submitted through the official online portal only www.thevanner.com  email, mail, or third-party submissions will not be accepted

• All required releases must be uploaded at the time of submission. Releases, as well as name and registration number of horses depicted must be submitted via email to gvhspublisher@vanners.org releases submitted after the deadline will not be accepted and result in disqualification.

• The submission portal closes strictly at 11:59 PM Eastern Time on April 20th. 

• Late entries will not be reviewed under any circumstances

• Incomplete submissions (missing releases, file format, photo sizing) will be automatically disqualified without notification.

Rights, Ownership & Releases

• Photographer watermarks are permitted on submitted images; however, entrants must provide a completed Photographer Release Form inclusive of current contact information. This form is required to facilitate communication should the watermark need to be repositioned to accommodate cover design and layout requirements.

• Minor subjects require a signed parental or guardian release

• By submitting, entrants grant the publisher a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use the image for promotional and editorial purposes

• Photographer credit will be given but does not constitute additional compensation unless otherwise stated

Disqualification & Fraud

• Submitting photos you do not own, or falsifying release documents, may result in legal liability

• The publisher reserves the right to disqualify any entry at any time, including after a winner has been announced, if violations are discovered

• Disqualified entrants forfeit all prizes and may be banned from future contests

Privacy & Publicity

• By entering, participants consent to the publisher using their name, likeness, and submit photos for promotional purposes without additional compensation.

Important Dates 

• Submissions extended to April 20th

• Voting opens on April 25th and will end May 3rd 

  • Voting is open to everyone. Each voter may cast one vote and must select three submissions as their top choices

  • Voting will be held on The Vanner website thevanner.com under Cover Contest https://www.thevanner.com/covercontest

  • Members of the Board, Officers and the Publications Committee, will select the winners from the photos with the 3 highest number of “likes” from the specified Vanner website album, in addition to these three, one wild card pick from the Board of Directors will be selected to pick from as well. This vote will occur on May 15th. The member with the selected photo will be notified no later than May 25th.
